Typically when you take you car into the garage to have something very simple fixed it might take a couple of days.
My bike isn’t a car, but it is my only form of personal transport, it’s now been at Mapdec for a week, and they’re still waiting for a bit of wire to arrive from the supplier. I have no issue with Mapdec, they’re just helping me to fix a bike that shouldn’t have passed QC (I have the checklist from Tredz that should have shown up that parts of the electrical system were held together with tape), considering it sat at Tredz for nearly a week from ordering undergoing “Preparing Your Bike”, seems a little suspicious that since receipt of the bike I have had issues.
- Chain Broke less than a week after it arrived, while waiting for the replacement chain it broke in different places twice more.
- Derailleur was misaligned/bent requiring it and/or the hanger to be straightened.
- Lock Nut on the Bottom Bracket/Chain Ring was loose/became looser, simple fix but meant that the bike was unrideable for a couple of days.
- Intermittent electrical problems from day 1, which I put down to user error as it never seemed to reoccur if I repeated whatever steps I’d done to cause the issue in the first place, which it turns out was an internal broken connector.
Bear in mind this was a significant outlay for me, and I will be paying it off for a whole year, that said I’m already ~£800 down (initial payment + first month repayment) for a product that I currently cannot use. I asked Tredz last week before I took the bike to Mapdec to send me a box so I could ship the box back to them if I couldn’t find anywhere else to get it repaired and I still haven’t received the box… maybe they thought that I wouldn’t need it. But honestly I’m getting to the point where no local repair will do and I just want a refund.
The actual customer support at Tredz has been pretty impressive, I have no complaints there, but the business as it stands has sent me good that are not fit for purpose – I get that they’re second-hand, but this isn’t ebay or sold as seen, this is a legitimate cycle shop. They shouldn’t be selling blatantly broken gear then lying that they have been checked for defects when that was clearly not the case.
Right that was nicely cathartic, still thinking about returning the bike and then just hoping I can still get finance to buy elsewhere.
