A more contemplative post… and probably short for all that too…
In Christianity the Original Sin was when Eve allegedly ate the apple from the tree of knowledge. God inevitably found out and evicted her and Adam from Eden. For the ancient Greeks the sinner was Pandora she allegedly opened the box entrusted to the care of her husband. I dare say that most primitive cultures have a similar story that explains where all of human wickedness comes from. Those are the two I know and as this isn’t a scholarly article so I’m not doing due diligence to check.
I study human interaction. As someone who doesn’t quite “get” social interaction (I’m on the autistic spectrum), it’s something I need to actually work at to try and fit my square peg (actually octagonal) into the round hole of human interaction. And one thing I have observed is that it is far more likely for the men in both of the above stories to have opened/eaten their fonts of all wickedness than for the women.
Adam ate the apple, when God was angry he blamed Eve, because she was only a woman and women were fairly worthless (in the primitive society that spawned the story). God then threw both of them from Eden. If Adam had answered truthfully, God would probably have allowed it because he knew that Adam was a bit of a lad… made in his own image (etc), and curiosity in a man isn’t bad.
Long time since I read the myth of Pandora but I’m willing to bet it could have been the same story.
Strikes me that all of the Women are bad because Eve ate the apple stuff, should be re-written as men are bad because Adam wouldn’t admit he fucked up… just like a lot of men throughout history.
